The polo
We have always loved our dad’s golf polos. They are super soft, made in bright, preppy color combinations, and they are appropriate for any occasion. In fact, they were something that men had been wearing for generations in our family, yet they still DIDN’T EXIST for women. We worked for 12 months to perfect our polo – crafted from soft pima cotton, in timeless striped colorways, and a cap sleeve to provide the perfect flattering detail. It looks great on the golf course, with white jeans on the beach, or chasing kids at the playground…this is the top every woman needs. The rams
The central theme to Renwick is being relaxed and natural, like our mother. She embodies this effortless beauty and represents for us a type of happiness that comes from being yourself. For as long as we can remember, our mother has worn gold ram head hoop earrings. Our grandmother did as well. Rams symbolize determination, action, initiative, and leadership. The two heads represent us as sisters. Making the logo for Renwick as two ram heads made perfect sense. (Pictured here is Pippa with Mom in Nantucket circa 1981)
Our past
We grew up in a family that valued hard work above all else. When Pippa graduated from University of Virginia she moved to NYC and worked in J.Crew’s corporate office. Sarah joined the company 2 years later after graduating from Wake Forest University. We both eventually moved on to other companies such as One Kings Lane, vineyard vines, and Draper James, where we continued to gain experience in merchandising, product development, brand building, ecommerce and inventory planning. We knew we had complementary skillsets (and personalities!) and were ready to fulfill our own vision for once. The void for attractive golf apparel persisted. We noticed a few women wearing their husbands soft cotton golf shirts and knew right then that we had our key item.
Our beginning
On Pippa’s 40th birthday in 2019 we planned to go into NYC to take the first steps to starting our dream of launching a golf apparel company. We met at the train station in Connecticut. The friendliest woman at the Dunkin Donuts came around the counter to bring Pippa a donut with candles while we were waiting for our coffees (pictured here). Those smiles are because we knew that it was going to be a good day. We bought yards of fabric in the garment district and explained to patternmakers that we wanted to combine multiple shirts into our dream polo and enjoyed a boozy lunch at The Smith. 12 months later we had designed our assortment and prepared for an ecommerce launch. It takes courage to make this leap, but we hope you love Renwick styles as much as we do.
Our goal
Our goal at Renwick is to provide top quality apparel that makes women feel comfortable and beautiful. We are setting out to create pieces that combine our favorite parts of different styles into something new. The striped polo reminds us of summer evenings spent with family and friends and the comfort of tradition. Not trendy but timeless. We want to celebrate the beauty of being yourself surrounded by the things you love.
